Thinking Gets in the Way

“Think enough and you won’t know anything.” – Kenneth Patchen

There must come a moment about three times a year that I say to myself. “You are thinking way too much and it’s starting to get in the way”. This post is a quest to understand this.

I know that being somewhat analytical has gotten me to some interesting places in my life and most of my friends that I’m closes to have this same traits. They already have proof it makes you tied. But when does thinking get in the way.
Being a big fan of the game of golf you see it happen all to often. Someone will be messing with their swing while you’re playing a round and next thing you know they cant hit any shot. In this case it’s all to simple to say, hey your thinking to much and at some point you have to trust your skills and hit the best shot you can. In other words, trust your skills and then play the game. Maybe trading is more like golf than we think. Gary Player once said, “Golf is a pizzle without an answer.” Does trading realy have an answer? It even happen in other sports.

In this article Prof Saxton is says:
By being too logical, over-rational, over-reflective and over-analytical you “can end up being stupid”, he believes. “You need to encourage other aspects of innovation and intelligence to really thrive”.

Here is an interesting read on thinking during the purchasing process. The more complex the decision making process the less thinking is better?

After doing some seaching on this topic I did find one interesting thing. I’m not alone. Several people have made post regarding this same topic in all sorts of areas, like this one. Maybe if I get some free time this could give me the educated explanation.

But I think I already, and always did, know the answer for this. It an old Tao’s saying:

“Stop thinking, and end your problems” – Lao Tzu

Here are a few good links I found on this topic. A great on off Trader Mike site that is a letter from a TC2000 user.
